Today I received my final confirmation email for Sunday’s Comrades Ultra Marathon.
It says “hard is what makes it great“.
Yes, I have to agree.
This week of reduced milage is not easy. Especially since I do not want to gain any weight during this week of taper. Yes I know, it’s important to get good quality nutrition and not go on a diet. You don’t want to be at the start starving 🙂
I take very much care of what I eat now. I reduce the intake of carbs in the evening, while I still eat carbs during the day. No chocolate and no alcohol.
Today I ran easy 6 km. I wanted to run Comrades pace (6:00 min/km), but I was a bit quicker. It felt very good. During the race I will need to take extra caution not to start to fast.
I’m very glad I know the route from the 2 down runs I did already. I know that there are severe climbs to make in the beginning, which I am going to walk partially to save energy.
And today I crossed the 1,200 km since 1st of January line. This is a pretty decent milage.
In the previous years I did between 1st of Jan and Comrades race day (in 2013 I did not participate):
2010: 1,236 km
2011: 1,304 km
2012: 1,168 km
| Distance | 6.1 km / 3.8 mi |
| Time | 32 min |
| Monthly distance (May) | 151.4 km / 94.1 mi |
| Annual distance | 1,200.3 km / 745.9 mi |

Everything of the Best for Sunday.
